Termites in Southington, CT

I recently did a termite inspection in Southington, CT,  I had to share what I found.

As you may know, this town has a moderate to high amount of termite activity.  The reason is unclear; it could be sandy soil, the proximity of the homes, the age of the homes or any one of the other theories termite exterminators in Southington, CT come up with.   The reason why this story about termites is important is more about when it happened than why.

The termite inspection on this Sotuhington, CT home took place in January during a snow storm (of all times).  What I found in the picture below while performing an exterior inspection will shock many homeowners.  It goes against everything most people think they know about eastern subterranean termites.

Termite shelter tube on foundation in Southington Ct

If you look close in the middle of the picture on the foundation, but just below the siding what you’ll see is a 1/2″ termite mud tube.  This tube was so small that I was lucky to find it at all.  What makes this find all the more shocking is the fact that I also found live termites inside the home.  Now, obviously this doesn’t happen everyday, but it just goes to show you that you never quite know where these pests are going to hide and why it’s so important to hire a professional exterminator to provide not only termite inspections, but also termite treatments.
