Termite protection for your home or business.
There are certainties in life death, taxes and the fact that at some point all homes will have termites. Many people don't think of the Northeast as a climate that would have termites, but we do and there are alot of them. Termites cause billions of dollars worth of damage yearly, so much so that homeowners insurance doesn't cover their damage or treatment. The only termite that we have in Connecticut is the eastern subterranean termite, it's common and unfortunately they are here to stay.
Subterranean Termite

The problem with termites is not only the visible damage that they cause, but also the damage that you can't see. Over the years we have visited many homes that have had termites for years and the homeowners were oblivious to the damage. As a testament to this fact, our company along with other members of the Connecticut Pest Control Association compiled figures during the recent real estate boom that show a whopping 45% of the homes that were inspected had some type of wood destroying insect.

Since our company, was a major contributor to this study we went a step further and found that 35% of the homes Envirocare inspected had a positive identification of either past or present termite activity. The preceding numbers are alarming if you consider the fact that we are one of many pest management professionals in the state. The question you should now be asking yourself is wether your home is vulnerable to wood destroying insect activity.

Please visit the section of our web site located at the bottom left of our home page that explains to you the vulnerable areas termites may enter your home. We also have compiled the many frequently asked questions about termites and their control that people ask.
Where do termites come from?
Termite colonies are located 3-25' below the ground or below the top soil but above the water table.
What are termites eating?
Termites eat any product made of cellulose. Cellulose is anything made of wood including homes, books, paper etc.
What do worker termites look like?
Termites are white in appearance and are about the size of a grain of rice.
What do reproductive termites look like?
Swarmers, as they are called have 2 body sections and 4 translucent color wings ALL of equal length. Ants look similar, but their body is separated into 3 sections and they have 4 wings 2 long and 2 short. Both species are easy to identify without a microscope.
How is the damage caused?
Worker termites feed on the wood, break it down in their gut with the help of a micro organism called a protozoa. They then regurgitate the slurry to the remainder of the colony.
What is the muddy substance that I see in the termite damage
It's mud and fecal matter that allows the termite to stay moist for a longer period of time so they don't have to return to the soil as frequently.
What does termite damage look like? What does a termite shelter tube look like?

Termite damage to a wood basement wall
Termite shelter tube found at top of a 8 ft garage fame
How small of a crack can termites fit through?
1/32' or about the width of a business card.
How is a termite treatment performed? Show me
We have several processes that we can use, but we have mastered the art of liquid applications. With the introduction of non repellant termiticides these types of treatments are our most popular. The goal of this type of treatment, unlike baiting systems is to form a continuous treated zone around your home or business so that termites slowly transfer the product to their nest mates. Termites spend a great deal of time grooming, touching and feeding one another, our treatment uses this behavior against them. What follows are the basics to a termite service:

First, we drill 1/2 inch holes
approximately 12'' apart and
inject termiticide below abutting slabs.
Second we dig a shallow 3''x6''
trench at the home perimeter
Lastly, we pump material into our trench
and inject it against the foundation
up to 4' of depth.
We then neatly cover the trench and plug and patch all drilled holes with tar or cement. The job site is left clean, repaired and termite free!!!

My house has a well, can it still have a termite service?
Absolutely, many of the homes in our service area have wells. The label of the products we use clearly state how to protect ground water and how these types of treatments can be done without issue.
How long will the material in the ground protect my home?
Recent studies have shown that continuous protection can remain for years, so long as the product is not disturbed.
Are the basic treatment techniques in your pictures the only techniques you use?
No, there are many tricks of the trade that we are called upon to perform that some other companies are unwilling or unable to do because they are neither easy or common. Most all homes can be treated regardless of the obstruction.
How long is Envirocare's warranty on its termite work?
We offer a lifetime renewable warranty that is transferable to new owners.
Why must the entire home be treated?
Termites are relentless, treat one area and we guarantee you they will find another vulnerable area. Always treat a home in its entirety.
My home is for sale and the inspector found "evidence of past termite activity, but no live termites", why is a treatment being recommended?
As a general rule termites do not have to feed at a particular home every year all season. Termite activity may come and go or be in areas that are inaccessible for inspection. For this reason, weather the damage is major, minor or somewhere in between all homes with evidence of termites should be treated. It's the right thing to do, both for yourself, the new owner and the home. Our company is so adamant about this we'll stand by this statement even if Envirocare is not the company that eventually treats the home.
